L’EQUISITE, 2022

Various objects, a game of exquisite cadaver
Salt stone, paper
Various dimensions (part of an installation in four parts)

In this exhibition, Heikinheimo and Gras illustrate elements of the life of a fictional character called l'exquisite, through various objects sculpted and formed out of salt.

The work is based on the ideology of the Cadavre Exquis, a game played by members of the Surrealist movement of the 1920s. Loyal to the original format, the character of this work is literally folded into four parts, namely the head, torso, legs and feet. Building upon the assembled narratives, the series of objects was constructed. L’EQUISITE questions the laborious nature and composition of the narrative.

Jaakko Heikinheimo and Myriam Gras are currently working on an artistic interplay related to salt, a crystalline mineral essential for the empowerment of life in general. The collaborative examination of the material also involves Niklas Sandström, a Finnish artist living in Scotland.
